Couples, and I think I’m safe in saying, particularly the bride to be, spend much time and effort deciding on all the little wedding details and decorations for their special day so I thought it worth a blog post of its own.
You won’t often see me post images of shoes, dresses and many other details of the day but that’s not to say I don’t photograph them, far from it. Part of the fun of planning your wedding is choosing the dress, colour scheme and little favours among lots of other things, so its important for me to make sure I’ve captured those elements.
So what in particular do I choose to single out and photograph at different parts of the day?
If I’m with the bride or groom before the ceremony while they are getting ready I often photograph the dress, shoes, jewellery, ties, and button holes before they are put on. I try to be creative in how these are taken, sometimes photographing them where they are placed already and sometimes finding somewhere with interesting light to show them off in a slightly different way.
Throughout the day I look for other little details, perhaps not always the obvious ones but sometimes something interesting and different presents itself or has been placed around the venue. I look for items that are clearly important to the couple and often these are things like photographs of relatives no longer alive that have great sentimental meaning and perhaps they have forgotten to mention to me about photographing.
The wedding breakfast room is always an important place to get some photos before the guests move in to enjoy themselves. The layout of the room, table decorations, wedding favours, seating plans and place names as well as the menu etc have all been deliberated over and organised so it’s important for me to photograph it whether it’s used for an album or not. Quite often now people have a sweet table and have signs printed so it’s nice to capture these things as well as the more obvious and important flowers and cake!
To summerise I just want to say that I know what planning wedding takes and as a photographer I want to provide a memory of all the things that made up your day. I see people as the most important subject matter but rest assured I won’t forget all those little bits and pieces that you have chosen to make your wedding day unique to you.
