I’ll be honest, as a Kent wedding photographer it’s not often I travel as far north as Yorkshire to photograph a wedding. Travelling anywhere that involves going on the M25 usually means driving up the night before but on this occasion there was no question about that.
Katherine and Tom had been guests at a previous wedding I had photographed in Preston near Canterbury back in 2015. Now living in Australia they booked their Church wedding for the 16th December in Halifax where Katherines family still live and the reception at Holdsworth House.
I love photographing winter weddings, especially those around Christmas as the extra decorations add even more to the atmosphere. We were lucky on the day as it was bright and sunny rather than grey and wet, and the little bit of snow on the ground made it even prettier for photos!
There was a happy buzz at the house where Katherine and her friends and family were getting ready. The bridesmaids made sure Katherine had everything she needed and outside the church waited happily for her arrival despite their goosebumps! Tom and his best man greeted guests in the church, the flower girl and page boys were given their instructions and a wonderful all male choir sang out for the arrival of a very happy bride.
After the ceremony guests gathered outside to send off the newlyweds under a flurry of confetti, some of which ended up in Tom’s mouth, funny how often that happens to grooms!
It was a short drive to Holdsworth House, a beautiful venue with a picturesque front and gardens, complimented by an interior of oak beamed rooms of different shapes and sizes. A definite aroma of Christmas was in the air with mulled wine being served up for guests to enjoy before their roast turkey dinner a little later on.
We managed to get group photos done outside and it’s true they do make them tough up north, not once did Katherine moan about being cold and for that I take my hat off to her. Their willingness to come out again later on also meant some gorgeous ones of them with the house behind lit up.
With the tables cleared after the wedding breakfast it was time for the Ceilidh, what a way to get everyone dancing and get the party really going!
