You may ask, “why have a pre wedding photoshoot?”.
There are a few reasons I personally think it’s a good idea. Let’s face it, there are very few people who enjoy having their photo taken. We feel self conscious, don’t know if we should smile or what we should do with our hands. It can just feel uncomfortable and awkward when you’re in front of the lens for the first time.
The ‘pre wedding’ or ‘engagement’ photoshoot helps to reassure couples that it can be a much less uncomfortable experience than they perhaps imagined it would be. I don’t ask them to do anything too staged, preferring to keep the poses as natural as possible. The time we spend together is as much about how they feel during the session as well as the results. After all, photos are about memories so it’s important they enjoy themselves.
It’s a great time for me to get to know the couple a little better and see how they are with each other. Some find it easy to relax and interact in front of the camera while others need a little more guidance. It also gives the couple a chance to see how I work and ask any questions about what happens on their wedding day.
With this in mind, a pre wedding photoshoot is a great way to see if a particular photographer is a good fit for you. If you’ve already booked your photographer it is a perfect opportunity to get to know each other better.
Today I am off to The Secret Garden to photograph Becca and Fred’s wedding. Back in April this year I did their pre wedding photoshoot. Although I’d met with them when they booked me, the photoshoot allowed me to see how they were with each other and what a giggler Becca is!
