Emma and Kevins wedding at All Saints Church, Tudeley near Tonbridge wasn’t a huge and lavish wedding but it clearly demonstrated the love and generosity of the family and friends that Emma and Kevin have around them.
Emma and Kevin themselves are not people who revel in being the centre of attention so they kept the invites to the church service fairly small. Tudeley church itself has its own notoriety with the twelve stained glass windows designed by the great Russian artist Marc Chagall. As a result the church attracts a lot of visitors, thankfully we didn’t have a coach load of tourists arrive on the wedding day as we had when we met there earlier in the year!
Arriving at the church the groom looked pretty relaxed, unlike his mum who was quite uptight as she had had to step in as Best woman after the best man could’t fulfil the role. In contrast the very young bridesmaids were having a ball, so excited they were dancing and running around in their pretty little dresses while their parents kept a close eye on them so they didn’t get dirty before the wedding.
Emma arrived looking radiant and while her mum nervously adjusted her daughters veil, Emma was all smiles talking to the vicar and waiting to go in. The ceremony went without a hitch and afterwards we took a few group photos and while the guests made their way to the reception venue, Emma and Kevin had their couple photos taken around the grounds of the church. They told me they really enjoyed this time alone together and it allowed them a chance to relax for a while.
It also worked well as it allowed Emma’s mum to get to the reception venue and organise things, she, and I expect some other family members and friends, had put so much effort into making the hall look special and also providing the catering, I know Emma and Kevin are the sort of people who would have fully appreciated it.
Traditional in many respects this wedding was also relaxed and informal in other areas. There wasn’t a sit down wedding breakfast or the usual speeches but Emma’s mum did make an emotional speech which was warm and heart felt and I’m sure greatly appreciated by her daughter and new son in law.
