Lauren & Jay’s wedding at Whitstable Castle in July was the first time I had photographed at this particular venue but I am familiar with the area as Whitstable is a great little place to visit with some wonderful shops and art galleries as well as the oyster sheds.
My first port of call was The Marine Hotel just up the road to get some photos of Lauren and her bridesmaids getting ready then off to Whitstable Castle for the main event. While the guests were offered pimms and canapés in the Robinson Room, Lauren was able to arrive unseen and escorted up to the Miles Room to await the arrival of the registrar’s to go through the legal formalities before the ceremony.
The ceremony itself was to take place in the beautiful wood panelled Mallandain Room and once underway Jay’s slightly nervous expression and Lauren’s tears soon gave way to smiles.
With Lauren and Jay’s wedding coinciding with the Whitstable Oyster Festival these little delicacy’s featured on the canapés selection after the ceremony out in the Rose Garden. An acquired taste for some but certainly enjoyed by many and helped down with a lovely glass of prosecco. Thankfully the weather had improved drastically from the previous day so everyone could enjoy the sunshine until moving into the marquee for the wedding breakfast.
The patio area outside the marquee overlook the manicured gardens on the other side of the castle where their is plenty of room for the children to play, and as children do, they turned the concrete wall next to the steps into their slide which provided lots of fun while the grown ups enjoyed their time socialising.
The cake cutting was slightly less of an event than had been planned as unfortunately it got dropped on the way from the car park so wasn’t looking it’s best despite repair efforts. What was lovely though was that Lauren and Jay didn’t make a big deal of it and simply felt bad for the creator of the cake and the person who accidentally dropped it.
The reception got under way once the band were ready and they were brilliant, a Beatles tribute band who played ‘All you need is Love’ for Lauren and Jay’s first dance, a great choice and I’m sure from seeing them together they won’t be short of that in the years to come.
