So how to choose the right Wedding Photographer for you?
If you’ve started searching for your wedding photographer you’ll know there are so many to choose from and it can seem like an impossible task!
The first thing to recognise is that a photographer who may have suited a friend of yours, may not suit you. Don’t get me wrong, recommendations are great, but do your own research as well.
Make a list of the things you’re looking for in your chosen photographer, both as a person and in their work. Maybe you’d like a particular gender or age of person. Or perhaps you simply want a style of photography. Whether that be natural and unobtrusive or more fine art and directed. You could then use those search terms when you type into Google to help narrow the field.
A big consideration is cost, but don’t make your decision on your photographer by going solely on price. Obviously weddings need to be budgeted, but after the initial email to a photographer to see if they’re available, set up a meeting. Check out if they’re the sort of person you’d like to have at your wedding day and who you resonate with in terms of their vision of photographing your day. You can read About Me here.
Write down a few questions you’d like to ask them. For example, how did they get into photography?, how long they have been photographing weddings?, do they do other sorts of photography? etc Also ask them how they go about photographing the day. How long do they spend on group photos and couple photos? What happens while everyone is eating etc? I like to put a timeline together before the day so I know what’s happening and when. Then if there’s anything planned that they have incorporated into the day that’s out of the ordinary, I’m ready.
That said it’s the things that aren’t planned that I’m always looking for!
Obviously you would have checked out their work before reaching out, but also read reviews posted on sites like Google and Freeindex for example. Here are some that people have left for me:-
It really doesn’t matter if the photographer you’re interested in has worked at your venue before, if they know their craft they’ll be fine wherever they go. Personally I’m happy going to new venues as much as ones I go to more frequently, and I do have a few favourites! You can view those here, but don’t worry if yours doesn’t feature! My favourite Kent Wedding Venues.
Lastly, enjoy the process, there’s a photographer out there perfect for you, who knows it might even be me!
