The Value of Wedding Photography
What price can you put on a photograph and what is the value of Wedding Photography? The cost of hiring a wedding photographer isn’t cheap, the cost of hiring a good wedding photographer can, I’ll admit, be expensive. So is it worth it?
Everyone now has the ability to take photos using their camera phones and they can be amazing in their quality, so why not just ask your friends and family to take the photos? One answer is that you couldn’t expect your friends and family to take on a responsibility as important as that. Not to mention knowing how to light and compose the image. It is the job of the wedding photographer, not just to record the day, but create photographs that bring back to you how it felt. As a wedding photographer I am constantly searching to capture the ‘moments’ while at the same time compose and light them as well as they can be for that situation.
When you part with your hard earned cash for a wedding photographer you are paying for all sorts of things, which is where it’s value comes in. It’s time on the day of course, but it’s also all the time leading up to that day. My experience and what I’ve learnt over the years is probably the most important aspect that gives my wedding photography services value. Together with that there then comes the editing which is a skill in itself and has taken time to learn and develop. Other things are, equipment, and that keeps developing! Insurance, editing software and computers etc. There are no doubt more I can list but it would be become a very boring read!
Photographs of your loved ones become more and more valuable as time goes on. Very recently my darling mum passed away, the photos I have of her are now priceless. These aren’t wedding photos ( I have only ever seen one!) and some are taken on my phone, but every single one is valuable to me.
To summarize I would say the value you put on your wedding photos is down to you and of course how much you can afford. Hopefully I have explained a little on why wedding photography costs what it does and how I see it’s value.
