The Oak Barn, Frame Farm Wedding – Sophia & Will
“Oh Helen they’re just perfect, thank you so so so much!!” Sophia & Will
I first met Sophia and Will when they came to the farm in the summer for a photoshoot with their little daughter Amelie, before her first birthday. They had already booked me to photograph their wedding in November so it was really nice to get to know them before then. Dating since 2014, where they met in the 6th Form, these two are real childhood sweethearts and what a gorgeous couple they make. I knew I was going to enjoy photographing their wedding!
When I arrived at the venue, Sophia along with her bridesmaids and mum were all in their tartan pajamas, mostly making sure there were eyes on the 2 little tots at all times, while getting their makeup and hair finished. The guys were able to get ready at the other end of the oast, getting to grips with doing up bow ties and after one failed attempt, safely stowing away a military sword.
Their wedding at The Oak Barn, Frame Farm near Benenden in Kent was a beautifully relaxed and intimate affair. They had requested the absolute minimum of group photos, (which always suits me!), and simply just wanted to be with friends and family chatting and enjoying themselves while I photographed the proceedings. With weddings, so many little things happen that make it unique to the couple and when there are no expectations to photograph certain things, it makes it easier to ‘see’ those little moments.
Sophia’s dress from Vicki’s Bridal Boutique in Tenterden looked stunning and suited her perfectly and the speed at which Will said “I do” indicated he thought so too! It was certainly the fastest acceptance of marriage I’d ever witnessed, I think the registrar had only just started talking! The best man slowed things down again later though when he couldn’t figure out who to pass the rings to.
Drinks and canapes followed outside under cover of the barn to enjoy the November sunshine before moving back inside before the temperature fell. It seemed like there was plenty of time for guests and couple to chat with each other which was lovely as it can sometimes feel a little rushed. Personally I think and hour and half is a good time between ceremony and sitting down to eat. Once everyone was called in to sit down, speeches got under way. It’s funny as when I did the photoshoot in the summer I thought then that Will (the groom), looked familiar, so when the best man put a photo up of Kris Marshall I knew why!
After enjoying some delicious food myself courtesy of ‘Touchays‘ catering company, I managed to persuade Will, (Sophia was already onboard), to have just a couple of portraits of the two of them before the dancing started. The music, provided by the West End Party Band then got going and kids and adults alike moved onto the dancefloor.
