My favourite Kent Wedding Venues and why I chose them.
Being a wedding photographer for quite a few years now (15 and I honestly can’t believe that myself ), I’ve worked at loads of different venues around Kent.
I wanted to write a slightly different blog post than normal and give you the readers some of my knowledge about my favourite Kent wedding venues. Hopefully you’ll find it useful and if you were considering that particular venue, it might help you with your decision.
When I first started photographing weddings I would say that the majority of my bookings were from couples getting married in their local church. From there they often would go on to have their reception in a marquee in theirs or their parents garden or the village hall. Although I still do these types of weddings, I would say I do fewer than I did and more people tend to have it all at one venue. So in no particular order here are a few of my favourite Kent wedding venues where you can enjoy every aspect of your day.
The first venue that I love to work at is The Secret Garden in Mersham near Ashford. Just everything about this venue makes my job enjoyable. Whatever time of the year, there are areas around the grounds of this venue to take beautiful portraits. There is just so much variety on where you can have your ceremony, probably my favourite being the little glass house. The staff are attentive and friendly and all the couples I’ve worked with here have loved it. To take a look at a wedding I’ve photographed here click here.
Secondly, and I may be a little biased on this one as I got married there, is The Hythe Imperial. We had a winter wedding and it was 1920s themed, so the Ballroom fitted perfectly for what we were looking for. Our friends who had travelled could all stay over, and we didn’t need to venture outside for anything, so for us it was perfect for a January wedding. This hotel has a large glass veranda area overlooking the sea, while on the other side the gardens have been landscaped to include a beautiful gazebo if you prefer to have your ceremony outside. Another great wedding venue is Lympne Castle. This again has so much scope for photography and lends itself to weddings all year round. Cosy fires lit during the winter and a beautiful garden and courtyard areas with magnificent views when the weather is good enough to venture outside. I love the history of this building with its numerous rooms and mediaeval feel, a real gem within the Kent countryside. To take a look at a wedding I’ve photographed here click here.
If you’re looking for a beautiful barn to have your wedding, then one of my favourites is Odo’s Barn. The exterior and interior are both fantastic and you’re able to decorate it to your own taste. The barn itself has plenty of space without it feeling huge and outside there’s a covered terrace and garden area set within quiet countryside. The last venue I’d like to mention is Port Lympne Mansion. This is truly unique as you can combine your wedding with a safari of the adjoining Aspinal wild animal park. The mansion house itself is stunning both inside and out, I just love the room with the colourful animal murals! As well as all this you have hippo statues in the water feature and wonderful views from the large terrace that fronts the building itself. To take a look at a wedding I’ve photographed here click here.
