2020 – Just Two Weddings
I never dreamt that my previous blog post would become the reality and in 2020, just two weddings would be my tally. Sadly all but two of my couples had to postpone or cancel their wedding day in 2020. It was a year like no other, almost unimaginable in many ways, certainly not one I’d like repeated.
Like many people I have had my struggles, not working as I would normally being the biggest thing. Having that feeling of self worth is so important and finding alternatives to photographing weddings has been crucial in my mental wellbeing.
I have spent some time on personal photo projects and also on doing up our house and growing more vegetables than I normally would! We have also bought a caravan to renovate and a moped to do up, so I have still have plenty to occupy me.
The two weddings I was able to photograph gave me a sense of purpose and a realisation of how much I love doing what I do. Both were intimate affairs with the limit being set to 15, but the joy of the day was not diminished in any way.
The smiles may have been hidden by the masks at times but they were still there. Social distancing meant a sparse congregation looked even more so as seating was spaced out during the ceremony. Little tables of people in their bubbles during the reception was another difference. Yet the love was still there and the laughter was still visible because these are the things that carry us through these times.
Here are a few images from these two weddings which show a little of the strangeness of the time that they went ahead.
