Four Generations and a Christening
With it just having been Mothers Day I thought what better blog post to start the week than one that features four generations and a Christening! The four generations includes 3 mothers and beautiful baby Emily, who was Christened at Rolvenden Church a few weeks ago.
The majority of my work is as a wedding photographer but christening photography is something I also love to do. Like a wedding, it is a fun and happy event, but it is generally a little more relaxed. The brief was to take photos of people arriving, the Christening itself and a few group photos afterwards, perfect!
Emily was simply gorgeous throughout, smiling and enjoying herself, only crying at the very end when she had decided enough was enough. Even when the vicar poured the water over her head during the baptism she took it all in her stride. I think the fact the vicar was so friendly and relaxed also influenced how Emily was during this part of the service.
Rolvenden church is a beautiful building and the light inside was really lovely. When I photograph weddings and christenings in churches, the light can vary greatly and on some occasions be really dark, particularly if it’s an overcast day or winter wedding.
I have photographed several christenings now and I love to capture the interactions between people, just as I do in my wedding photography. I think what makes this extra special is that the baby is the centre of attention at a christening and they are the focus of everyones attention. It enables me to become even more unnoticeable when photographing them as they only have eyes for the baby and produce some wonderful expressions.
