WPJA Photography Awards – A nice start to 2018!
Just a quick post to share a couple of award winning photos I’ve received from the WPJA 2017 Tri 3 Photography competition. The WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association), is an international association that runs 3 competitions a year containing different categories. Each category awards places from 1-20 and only photographs taken in that year can be entered.
To be placed and gain some recognition for what is my passion and be among some of the worlds best wedding photographers is very humbling. This recent photograph was from Claire & Stefans wedding in Broadstairs, Kent. Seeing Stephan and his best man adjusting their ties, I saw a more interesting perspective on the scene was through the car window including the reflection of the trees.
I also received an ‘Honour Award’ for the photo of the groom kissing his mate on the forehead during the reception dancing. This was from Debbie & Martins wedding at The Gardens, Yalding, another great Kent wedding venue. The second was from Josh and Ann’s wedding when they were just about to cut the cake. The WPJA has introduced the ‘Honour Awards’ for excellent photography that wasn’t among the 20 final award winners in a category. The reason for this is they get tens of thousands of entries which meant a lot of good work was being left out.
Gaining awards from prestigious associations such as the WPJA are simply a bonus in what I do for a living and I count myself extremely lucky. The real reward comes however when I get feedback from clients, the latest of which was from Beccy & Steve who’s wedding I photographed at The Ferry House Inn. That is why I am constantly trying to improve and why I love what I do!
