Photographing weddings at the Hythe Imperial in Kent is always a pleasure and when you have a couple getting married such as Juliet and Darren it’s only going to get better. I’d already spent some time with them during their pre wedding shoot which we also did in Hythe, down by the canal which was beautiful, so we had got to know each other a little bit before the wedding day.
Arriving there to capture some getting ready shots a couple of hours before the ceremony I found Juliet complete with hair and make up done, only needing to put on her dress, clearly she did not want to be late!. So while her and her bridesmaids relaxed and drank a little bubbly I photographed some of the details and went to find Darren.
He was busy doing the finishing touches to the ballroom where the reception was being held and doing a great job. The guests had started to gather in the bar so once I’d distinguished them from guests going to another wedding who were congregating there I was able to photograph them before the ceremony as well. I try wherever possible to capture as much of the proceedings before the wedding ceremony as there can be some great moments when family and friends see each other for the first time in a while and it’s these bits of the day that the bride particularly doesn’t get to see.
The ceremony took place inside in the Garden Room and Juliet was escorted down the aisle by her brother. I think Darren’s face showed the whole range of emotions prior to and during the ceremony, hardly surprising as its such an emotional day! The overriding expression on both their faces though was happiness, it was obvious to see there’s so much love and respect between them both and it really is a big part of why I love this job so much.
Photos outside in the newly landscaped garden with its elegant gazebo followed and then it was back up to the balcony area overlooking the sea for the keenly awaited drinks and canapés. I have to say at this stage that Darrens son, Sam, delivered the best speech I’ve seen in terms of effort and delivery for a while, even involving fire! I applaud you Sam!
First dance wise, Darren and Juliet were superb! They’re either keen dancers or had practised hard and I loved it!
So with the sun setting we got the last few shots of Darren and Juliet together out on the beach before the light faded and it was then time for me to go. Thank you both for allowing me to be a part of your amazing day.
