So although it’s April and a new wedding season is getting underway I still wanted to blog the lovely Jane and Stevens Chilham Church Wedding in Kent that I photographed last October.
I met up with them both for a pre wedding photoshoot and to look around Jane’s family home where the reception was to be held just a couple of weeks before the wedding date. Meeting them both I knew I was going to enjoy photographing their wedding, they were so easy to be around, smiley and just lovely!
On the day of the wedding I started at Jane’s parents house to photograph the getting ready preparations. The dress was actually Jane’s mums, it fitted her perfectly, the only trouble she had was getting back out the room after getting it on, the door wouldn’t open wide enough due to some floor boards lifting up in a big mound!
I loved the whole family approach to this wedding, so much laughter and acceptance of if things going slightly awry it’s ok. Jane arrived at the church with Mike, her dad, in his old land rover, they and the bridesmaids had all forgotten their bouquets so they did a quick u-turn and returned 5 minutes later with the gorgeous sunflowers.
Keeping the wedding as free flowing as possible we did some of the main group photos outside the church after the ceremony and then headed back to farm for the reception. This is exactly how I like to work as a wedding photographer as it allows for moments to happen naturally and for people to feel like they can just enjoy themselves.
Back at the farm, the barn looked beautiful, decorated with candles and fairy lights, credit I believe to Mike and Steven, and the colour of the garden flowers on the long centre table made it all so warm and special. Marisa had made the cake and decorated it that morning and that too looked absolutely stunning!
With Steven, like Jane, not being the sort of person who loves to be in the spotlight, this wedding was all about the two of them celebrating their marriage in a way that was right for them, which is exactly as it should be. They laughed and smiled all day and with Mike getting the dancing underway with his crazy moves, they partied well into the night!
I find I photograph a high percentage of Kent weddings in local churches so I have to be discreet and unobtrusive. If you want to view more of my wedding photography in Kent churches there is a category on my blog page dedicated to it.
