Rachael and Daniels wedding at The Secret Garden near Ashford in Kent was planned to be a sunny outside ceremony in the gazebo followed by a traditional English afternoon tea in the gardens with a just a handful of friends and family attending. As it was the great British weather put pay to anything going on outdoors unless you were prepared to get soaked!
Instead their ceremony took place in the glass house which was in fact perfect for the style of wedding Rachael and Daniel wanted. With it’s grape vines growing up inside along the ceiling and little wooden chairs, the individual touches that Rachael and Daniel had added complimented the feel of the venue perfectly. There appeared to be a ‘rabbits’ theme going on with lots of little china ornaments placed on the tables and around the cake and even Daniels cuff links were two little rabbits.
After the ceremony it was a mad dash under umbrellas through the rain to the marquee outside for drinks while the glass house was turned around for the afternoon tea. Once people had had some time to enjoy a drink and chat it was time to take the requested group photos. Luckily we were able to photograph the group shots undercover of the huge archway in the courtyard so basically it was just me that had to get wet, which is ok, it’s part of the job. 🙂 Although I also managed at this point to split my trousers which made things a little drafty!
Without doubt this day was the wettest by far that we had all summer and the rain was torrential but spirits were still high and Rachael’s smile was unfading. Luckily she had come prepared for the rain with her bright red wellies and both her and Daniel were still keen to get some photos in the gardens regardless of the weather and this was accomplished and my drowned rat look was complete.
Sometimes though it is these sorts of days that give even more pronounced memories as they have a different unexpected element to them. Even if at the time you might have wished for a beautiful sunny day, the photos of you trying to hold onto an umbrella while being pelted with rain will be very different to the majority of summer weddings.
